L’ACCADEMIA DEI LEGGIERI – Music and Theatre lovers – takes origin by former “Società dei Leggieri” founded in San Gimignano in 1793.
The Academy is mostly performing at Teatro di Leggieri. The Theatre, a real hidden gem, is hosted inside the ancient Palazzo del Podestà, located just in Piazza del Duomo in the medioeval heart of San Gimignano.
Right after War II Società dei Leggieri, could not raise founds enough to repair the Theatre damaged by bombings.The Society ended over and Theatre fell in private hands until 1982. At the time Municipality re-bought the whole structure planning future restorings.
The Accademia dei Leggieri is founded in 1988 on the tracks of disappeared Società dei Leggieri.
Leggieri Theatre was eventually restored in 1996.Accademia dei Leggieri is actually performing baroque or classical music, concerts, operas.
